2024

I have a lot of plans going forth in the coming year. I hope you will all stick around to see them come to fruition.

Beauty and the Beast Retelling:

My current WIP is a beauty and the beast retelling and it will be the beginning of a fairy tale retelling trilogy I am calling the Trouvaille Series. Trouvaille is my favorite French word and it means “A lucky find” and I thought it was fitting for my little lgbtqia characters and their love interests. There is more about the batb wip under my works in progress page!

Have it All Sequel:

So, I was asked to write a sequel to Have it All and, frankly, I already had ideas floating around for one. I want to focus on a different character for the sequel, Chuck my little ace himbo. I have a romance in mind for him and I would love to share it with the world. I also have an idea for a third installment, but that’s going to take a bit longer!

YA Fantasy Novel:

Yes! I’m dipping my toes into YA, but it will be under a different pen name. I will share that pen name and the accounts that go with it! There will be a lot more information and mood boards and all that good stuff in the coming months.

I hope you all are as excited about 2024 as I am!

New WIP

I have started the process of writing a brand new novel. The tentative title is Have It All. It is a wlw, rivals to lovers, contemporary romance. It will have a diverse and colorful cast of characters including the main character a tough, take no shit, lesbian and her rival a bisexual Latina who secretly has a soft heart. This story is about a woman who dreams of leaving her small town and becoming a professional dancer. Along the way she meets new friends as well as her biggest rival.

Look out for more information on Have It All. I have posted a little bit more about my main character Liora on instagram and twitter. More character introductions will be coming soon!

Inspiration and Writer’s Block

One thing all writers have to deal with at some time or another is lack of inspiration or writer’s block. I’ve come up with some ways that usually get me out of that little sticky situation and I thought I would share them with you all!

RELAX

1). Do something relaxing, whether that means taking a walk, running a bath, watching a movie, listening to music, or reading a book. Anything that relaxes you and gets your mind on whatever scene you happen to be stuck on.

CREATE INSPIRATION

2). Find something to inspire you. If you haven’t before, I suggest making a playlist specific to your story or specific to a certain character. What is the theme song or what is a song that makes you think of this character when they’re feeling sad or happy? Pinterest is another place to find inspiration. I know a lot of people think of it as a place for moms and recipes, but it can be a place to gather pictures and quotes that inspire you to think about your characters and scenes. It can also be a great way to see what your fellow writers are up to! (I just put together a Pinterest for writer specific purposes last night if you want to check it out).

TRY PROMPTS

3). Prompts are your friend! You can ask a friend for a prompt or google one yourself but either way a prompt can really get the juices flowing. Write something completely different than what you’re working on, something silly, something fun, or write something about your current characters in a very different scenario from the one you’re stuck on. It gets your mind off of what you’re doing and what you’re frustrated with but it also keeps you writing.

Those are my ways of getting unstuck, what about you?

Words

Sometimes I run across “rules” for writing which makes me roll my eyes. These rules dictate which words I should and should not use.

  • Don’t let your characters sigh
  • Characters shouldn’t smirk
  • A character doesn’t chuckle

Why not? Because they are overused or in the case of smirk and chuckle, people don’t do those things in real life. Such silliness.

I don’t believe in telling someone what words to use and not to use. There are times, yes, when grammatically speaking a word shouldn’t be used, but for the most part a writer is free to choose whatever suits them best. People chuckle, people sigh, and they smirk too. A writer shouldn’t feel held back by what someone else dictates. They should write what feels natural to the scene and to the character.
